This race is one of my favorites - it is an easy course with minimal elevation changes. Where there are hills, they are on the front half of the course so you are fresh. I love the neighborhood cut throughs and the almost excessive number of latrines and water stations.
Once you get through the first half, you turn back towards the city on some relatively old roads. The roads that cut through the park and the neighborhoods are EXTREMELY rounded, so you will be running off camber for several miles which can be hard on the ankles and saps some time.
The really nice part of the race is the beautiful scenery, houses, and people who come out to support with extra water stations (sometimes beer stations) and bring out the bands to play music.
The last mile or so is all downhill so you really know when to turn on the speed - and it is pretty easy to do so.
I had a great time. This particular race, the temperature was 80 degrees and I had not trained or hydrated for that temperature so it ended up being much harder than I expected. I've learned my lesson - next time the weather app says ~70, i'm going to go ahead and bring the camelback.
100% chance I run this race again in 2023
