Donut Dash For Summit WAB 5K Review

It was a chilly but fun morning at the Donut Dash For Summit WAB 5K.  I was looking forward to a fast flat course and obviously the donuts at the finish line!   I felt strong running and had negative splits for each of the 3 miles of the race. I finished 11th overall. 12th if you count the beautiful dog that beat me!   I was a little surprised when I crossed the finish line with a time of 23:03.  Based on my mile splits I expected a much faster finish time.  After a little data swapping and conversion with other runners we concluded the slower finish times resulted from the course being long.  Usually I focus on my finish time but for this race I’m focusing on my mile splits of 7:19 for mile 1, 7:17 for mile 2, and 7:12 for mile 3.  Still not where I want to be yet but progress over my last two races so I am happy with that.

The initial results showed I placed 2nd in the 40-59 age division.  I was about to leave and checked the results one last time and apparently there was a glitch and the new updated results showed me winning the 50-59 age division.  I went back to the finish line and unfortunately missed the awards ceremony.  The race director did present me with the age division award though.

The race was well organized. The course was closed with police blocking all cross streets.  The course was mostly flat but there were a few areas of a little elevation change.  Running on some of the brick roads wasn’t ideal but tolerable.
All participants received donut themed t-shirts, donut finisher medals, and some coupons and promotional items from sponsors.  There were a lot of really nice gift baskets that were raffled off but sadly I didn’t win one.  The donuts at the finish line were tasty and the real star of the race.

Thank you to all of the volunteers and race directors for putting on a great race!
