The Pro version of the Xtep 2000KM. A high cushion tempo cruiser at a great value proposition pricing. The name suggests durability and efficiency. Do the miles reflect that? Let's find out.

Review Goal

https://www.weeviews.com/reviews/4372/xtep-2000km-50

I reviewed the entry level model of the Xtep 2000KM 5 (linked above) and looked at the Pro version as a higher stacked long run shoe that could potentially do long runs with a higher end foam that could provide versatility and protection.

Deets and usage

Weight: My size 12's came in weighing: Left 9.3 Ounces, Right 9.3 Ounces
Sample: 210g (7.4 oz) for a US Size 8 / 228g (8.04 oz)
Heel Stack: 39-40mm
Drop: 5 MM
Upper:  Double-layer Jacquard knit mesh for high breathability and durability
Outsole:  CPU Dura Tech anti-slip rubber with multidirectional grip

Midsole: Full-length ACE Foam (Supercritical TPU-based foam).  Supercritical beaded PEBA foam.
Plate: Torsion plate in midsole

MSRP: I have seen this shoe between 80ish US dollars and 102ish US dollars on AliExpress.  I paid 82 dollars out the door (Tax/shipping) on AliExpress.

Use cases:

I put in 62.5 miles overall of running and around another 5 miles of walking in the shoes.  I did up tempo, steady pace, varying speeds, and a long run of 15 miles.  I ran on concrete, tarmac and dirt in dry conditions.  I got to run on partially wet tarmac.  I walked on office floors, parking lots, streets and pathways.

These shoes came with me to Utah on a family vacation and got some awesome runs in them.  The majority of my runs were between 7 and 9 miles.

Upper

Laces: Nice strong ribbed laces, stayed tied on all runs and did their job.
Tongue: The tongue is lightly padded and perfect for the upper design and usage case of the shoe.  It has a lace loop, and full gusset.  I had no slippage on the run of the tongue, it stayed in place very well.  The tongue also has some laser perforations in it for breathability.  It is a very good design.
Upper material: The upper material has limited breathability and is a very durable material.  The shoes materials are impressive at this price (and much higher) as they seemed intent on being durable as well as performance oriented, which they have nailed in my opinion.
Heel: The heel has minimal structure, as you would expect with a shoe with more lightweight design intent
Toe Room: I had no hot spots from the toe room and felt like I had good wiggle room without any slippage.  It feels like there is plenty of room in the toe box with solid lock down in the midfoot and heel.  There is also nice vertical room without causing any toe slipping.  It feels like they have rounded the toe box a bit, which is nice
Fit: The shoe fit perfectly true to size in my size 12's.  No adjustments needed at all, great fit.
Availability: I wear size 12's, which has been consistently sold out.  I luckily found a pair available and got them, they were sold out the next day.  The shoe has some popularity behind it.

*Note on sizing for Eastern brands.  Make sure you look at reviews, especially reviews that may be the same size as you to see how they work.  Anta's have been true to size with American sizing, but it may be a good idea to measure your foot in metric and find some comparison charts when purchasing on line.

Outsole

I continue to be thoroughly impressed with the outsoles on the shoes out of China.  This outsole is tacky, durable, does not numb the ride sensation and continues in the string of shoes that have impressive results.

The only downside is the office environment when walking, they are quite squeaky.  However, that isn't what we are wanting these shoes for, but it is something work noting for those of us that like to where our running shoes to work.

This outsole is up there with the best and offers a tacky material that will also last, it doesn't sacrifice durability for the sake of traction.

Midsole

If we categorize underfoot sensations into 2 categories: Spongy and Snappy, then these shoes fall on the Snappy side of the comparison.

Now, within the snappy category I am starting to make subcategories of response within "snappy".  I look at "spring", "Pogostick" and "trampoline.
Spring: A direct response, shorter compression and decompression distance with a quick decompression sensation.
Pogostick: A direct response, longer compression and decompression distance with a quick decompression sensation but one that travels a longer distance (Think Li Ning Red Hare 9 Ultra)
Trampoline: An indirect response, the sensation of being more on a platform that is sprung with a secondary mechanism (like springs).  Still a quick compression and decompression, but feels more indirect than direct (Nike Vomero Plus for example).

This Midsole falls into the "Spring" subcategory of the snappy "category" in my experience.   The more miles I have put into these shoes the foam has loosened up a little and at 62.5 miles feels like they have settled into a very nice responsive ride on the snappy side of things.  Now, for some, this may also be a ride sensation on what is considered the "firmer" side of things.   This is a shoe for those that like a direct, quick response type of foam underfoot with a very nice geometry.

The shoe shines on long steady pace runs.  It is not necessarily a shoe that pushes you into a up tempo pace, but rather is a great shoe for holding you at whatever pace you put it into.  For a max stack shoe, it is lightweight overall, with a nice geometry and snappy direct responsive ride underfoot.

Final thoughts

This shoe compliments the base shoe very well.  With that said, the shoe is very versatile in and of itself and could easily be your primary daily trainer and long run shoe.   It is a shoe I would have no issues using for a half and full marathon.  It is lightweight, nice geometry with a protective amount of snappy foam underfoot that is great for long distance running.

It is also at a price point that is a true value proposition.  Out of all of the shoes I have run in on this series, this may actually have the best value proposition for cost spent.  The shoe is right at the border of super trainer and would be significantly more expensive on the Western market.

Total thumbs up on this shoe.
