Out of the box, the Nordlite Ultra 2 presents a straightforward design built around function. The geometry is tall and stable, the outsole coverage is substantial, and the upper is simple but purposeful.

The Nordlite Ultra 2 is a protective daily training option that is capable of handling most terrain that you throw at it. It has a great outsole with 2mm lugs capable of getting you from your doorstep to most groomed trails and then some. It will likely fall short when faced with more technical terrain but it could be a really good option for those winter miles when the roads are covered in snow or ice.

How it Compares to Other Models

Within Craft’s lineup, the Nordlite Ultra 2 is the firmest option Eric has tested. Compared to the Xplor 2 and Ultra Pro:

Upper Fit & Comfort

The fit of the shoe was wide foot friendly but if you've tried Craft in the past then these will fit more standard in comparison. I found the lockdown, despite a wider fit, to be adequate which is obviously a concern when you have more room. Overall I felt like the upper got the job done and the TPU overlays are well placed to protect your feet.

Midsole Performance (Cr Foam Ride)

The midsole features Craft’s Cr Foam, a supercritical EVA designed for responsiveness and stability. During testing, the midsole provided more firmness than expected, contributing to a controlled and efficient ride—especially on softer terrain or gravel—while feeling a bit stiff on easier-paced road miles.

The geometry supports pace versatility, but runners seeking softness underfoot may prefer other Craft models.

This shoe has great overall versatility and sets out what it aims to do, which is cover your feet on varying terrain. I think that the shoe is probably best for steady and easy runs but my only concern would be that runners might find it a little firm or stiff for daily miles.
