If you’re looking for a longer race in the Northeast PA area, this a definitely a race you should check out. Of all the ‘big’ races I’ve done, The Wyoming Valley Run is hands down the most organized and best executed.
Registration opens for early bird pricing in the spring (typically the day after the Scranton Half Marathon). Pricing is more than reasonable and in line with big races.
If you’re in it for the swag, The Wyoming Valley Run does NOT disappoint. Runners get a very high quality (AND colorful) dri-fit half zip for registering. Runners also always get a ‘finisher’s gift’ at the finish line. Year 1 was sunglasses, year 2 was a dry-fit hat, and this year was a beanie.
Since it’s a point to point race and parking is tricky, there are shuttles available before and after the race.
Speaking of after the race… there’s a really fun after party that previously was held in the evening after the race. This year, it was immediately after the race at a local venue at the finish line.
The course is flat and fast. The start is well organized and always on time. Note: it’s one big start… there are no corals. There are plenty of water stations along the way with volunteers and people lined up along the course cheering. Several local cross country teams man the water stations. The course runs a long stretch of Wyoming Ave through several towns with virtually no incline.
The finish is so motivating. There’s a DJ playing music, a long chute lined with fans, and and announcer calling out your name (and team or club if applicable) and your time.
College students hand out water, medals, finisher’s gifts, and there are lots of post race snacks available.
The medals are high quality and really well made.
There are also LOTS of back drops for you to get pics in front of.
