For some back story, this is my Third Garmin in six years. I started with a vivoactive for music storage. As I upped my distance, I needed to get better battery life, and upgraded to the Forerunner 735x, a non-touch screen triathlon watch with great battery life. This new upgrade has all those features plus a whole lot more.
All the features you would expect from your sports watch in a big bright face. Easy to read customizable screen. Cool feature is the default while active is to disable the touchscreen. No more accidentally stopping while on a run. If you prefer, you can turn this feature off.
Of course the old Garmin watches track pace, and you times in your pace zones. Now it tracks your perceived power and well. It can break down a workout to time in aerobic and anarobic zones to help better track your training. Now this does not replace a coach, but the coaching and training plan features does help you plan, or more important stick to your plan. If you are using a coach to train, it provides great date to analyze your training.
I can easily get 100 miles off a full charge, but that is a plus and a minus.
Currently, I am NOT playing music, and that is an option. I cannot honestly comment on GPS and music.
**Update I am getting about 1.5 MI per percentage without music, at a 10 minute pace, and about .75 MI pur battery percentage with music.**. Still an amazing amount of battery.
What I can comment is 13% Battery for 17 miles while it was yelling at me to go faster! Let me explain. I have my marathon training to alert is faster than 7:30 min mile or Slower than 9:30 min mile. My 17 mile run was 9-1030 pace, and it gave me my pace, and "She" (the current voice setting) would tell me I was going to slow about every minute. (I set it that way, you can turn it on or off)
I do miss the quick charging of my 735X, but I do feel the 965 charges best when left overnight.
Bottom line, big improvement in battery life.
David Moore Nice! I've always gone the way of low profile running watches but these newer big screens have me thinking. I'm sure it would feel like replacing an old 32" TV with a 70" widescreen.. plus more useful functionality
Michael Vaughan Agreed! I can see the screen without my glasses!
