I recently received a trial pack of the Neversecond C30 gels. The pack had a wide variety of flavors, and included both standard and caffeinated gels.
I’ve tried lots of gels over the years, and have learned that I prefer thinner gels. My go-to option is the Science in Sport Beta Gels. Not super cheap, but thin consistency and high carb, so I’m willing to pay a little extra. Any time I try something new, I’m going to compare it to SiS Beta.
In light of that, I would classify the C30 gels as just OK. They’ll get the job done, but you may need to carry quite a few depending on your activity level and fueling strategy.
The packaging is roughly the same size as a SiS Beta or Styrkr. I’m used to carrying the larger gels now, so that didn’t bother me.
Where these went south for me was with trying to open them. Some were very difficult. If I’m on the trails, I usually have a knife with me which makes it easier if there is an issue with a pouch. But I would be hesitant to depend on these gels in a road race with the current packaging.
The carb content on the C30 gels is slightly higher than Gu gels, but 10g lower than SiS Betas. Sis is also 60ml, so overall volume is the same.
Overall, the C30 is not a bad option. I actually enjoyed the flavors - with the exception of fruit punch, which tasted a little medicinal to me. But I think that considering the cost, carb content, and packaging issues, there are better options available.
I was offered these gels as a trial through WeeViews.
