1. I have harsh mechanics
2. I am a neutral runner
3. I have a standard to narrow, accommodating foot shape
4. My left foot turns out slightly (slight toe out), which leads to an awkward flow of my left heel and tends to rub the ground when my mechanics get tired. This leads to outsoles dying quickly in combination with my harsh overall mechanics.
5. I am a pro level sweat machine. This is one of the reasons I have a good rotation of shoes, I like to let them air out.
6. I started running at an older age, no proper training and my steady pace is in the mid 9 minute per mile range.
The upper is made from an engineered mesh. It is a breathable, flexible and comfortable upper. The tongue is gusseted, which always makes me happy. The tongue does have a large round opening it it, which I can only figure is for more breathability? The fit is very good for my foot and fits true to size.
*I have seen some reviews on Running Warehouse where people need to size up, so be aware. However, I have had no issues.
I ran 10 miles on wet tarmac and had no issues with the grip of the outsole. It has performed well on dry, wet and dirt paths. The only concern I might have is the longevity of the rubber in my main wear area, but I kill a lot of shoes there.
I am a fan of the 5 mm drop and rocker/guidance technology in the shoe. It matches very well with my mechanics for a nice effortless stride. The foam is Asics FF blast plus foam. It is a bit on the firmer over pillowy side, which works for me. I enjoy the feedback with some ground feel in this shoe.
I have not ran in the Novablast 5 to this point. From the reviews I have seen it has 7 more MM stack in the heel with an 8 MM drop. The Novablast has the flytefoam blast max foam in it. The reason I am noting this is because the shoes are only 5 dollars different and some people may say "why get the Tri Noosa". In my opinion, the shoes do 2 different things. The Novablast is going to be a nice do it all type of daily trainer that is stronger in the long steady runs but may be able to incorporate some up tempo work. Where as the Noosa is strong at the up tempo work, but only certain people will want to do long runs in it due to the lower stack and ground feel.
I actually think these would be good to put into a rotation together as they compliment each other well and are at the more agreeable end of the prices of shoes in today's market.
I love the designs of these shoes. I realize they are not for everyone, but I like them for a fun run shoe. Love the look of this one for night running with my lights on them. If someone is looking for a tempo shoe, this is a shoe I would recommend. It would compete with the Brooks Hyperion 2 and Adidas SL 2 for me, which I don't think you can go wrong with any of them and are all at a good price point.
