Summary

Found a pair on sale for 90 bucks, so bought them to try them on a 50K I had signed up for. The following are my thoughts after running a total of 48 miles, including a full 50K run in them.

Step in feel

Shoes have a very nice, comfortable, bouncy feel at step in.

Upper

The upper is a plush upper with a great fit.  I like the slight gaiter fit up around the ankle, which seemed to keep rocks and dirt out on my runs.  Probably some areas that could be made lighter to help with the weight of the shoe.

Midsole

The midsole is great.  Nice feedback on the runs, good bounce.  I think the midsole is let down by the outsole (next)

Outsole

Positive: Nike made the right call going to vibram.  The outsole grabbed the terrain great, which included a lot of rock/loose rock and dirt surfaces.

Negatives:
-The large area without rubber, that leaves exposed foam, also left a great place for rocks to give direct feel to the bottom of my feet. Enough so that I thought about changing out on my last loop, but wanted to go all the way with the shoes
-I had an odd sensation that I think I could feel the rubber outsole through the foam.  When I would land (not all the time, but consistent enough) I could feel pressure points that correlated to where the rubber was and also, was not.  It was an odd feeling.
-I had my first blister on the bottom of my foot since I started running.  I can't say for sure it was the shoes, but I have done long runs in the socks before and no issue.

Final thoughts

@full MSRP, I am buying other shoes.   At the discounted price I got them at, they will be moved to a training shoe, but not long runs.  For now, for me, my Speedgoat 5's and Mafate Speed 4's are still top tier.
