Chevron Houston Marathon (Full) Review

One of my favorite runs each year.  All the local running groups come in, many social media running personalities come into town and support it.  Plenty of places to go get a great drink afterwards =)

Packet Pick-up / check in

They have a scheduling system where you sign up for a time span to do packet pick up.  I breezed right through the process, they are great at this.

Support

The volunteers, locals and brands all do a fantastic job of supporting this run.  It really takes over the city in a very nice way, with neighborhoods out cheering you on, bands out playing, priests blessing you with water etc.  They have some breakfast food ready for you at the end.  They have plenty of bathrooms to use.  The only improvement opportunity is the support being out there for those who take the whole 6 hours.

Course

The course veers through different parts of downtown, out to the outskirts of town, up through Memorial park and then back into downtown for the finish.  The biggest challenge to the run is their is some elevation at around mile 22, so it hits when the legs can get tired, but I run this area a lot so I was ready for it.

Atmosphere

Fantastic, the local support really helps this run be great

Final thought

If you are looking for a larger big city marathon, I highly recommend this run.  It may not have the prestige of Boston/NYC/Chicago, but the city fully supports the runners and it is a great time.  Kofuzi (if you know the running personality) also has high praise for this run.
