Summary

A lightweight, durable, dynamic running shoe. Has been my go to and top overall training shoe for the past 1.5 years. Not meant for walking, but can use for almost every kind of run. Very slow runs may be a challenge as the shoe makes me want to go

Brooks Hyperion Max Review

Usage distance: Retired at 473 miles.  Average run distance was 14.3 miles.  Highest mileage run was 31.5 miles

Wear

I am a terror on the outsole, especially on the outer back left part of my left foot.  I rub that portion of the shoe and commonly wear out shoes in that area quick.  Brooks is the exception to this point.  Initially I had concerns as the shoe has strategic rubber placement to reduce weight, but the durability was fantastic.  I still have rubber left.  The upper has just 1 area of "wear", my left toe area.  I tend to rub that area through.  The shoe has signs of that rubbing, but have not gone through it.

Usage types:

Used on pavement and some light trail (dirt, limestone).  Used for long runs, up tempo runs and cruising miles. The shoe can handle slow runs, but for me I was not good at maintaining a slower pace as this shoe works for my running mechanism well and I would naturally pick up the pace.

Walking

I do not recommend this shoe for walking.  The construction of the back end makes it an awkward walking shoe.  With that said, it did become better with walking as it broke in.

Midsole

The foam is of a firmer nature, so if you like cushions as a running shoe, this may not be for you.  I tend to like a firmer shoe, so this is right in my wheelhouse

Concerns

Concern: The next version is set to come out and Brooks is drastically changing it.  Adding stack and a nylon plate (I believe). The hope is there are reports that the straight Hyperion model will essentially become the Hyperion Max.  It looks like Brooks is doing a re-alignment of their models, so I have hope this great shoe design will still be around in the different model name

Price point: Shoes are just getting expensive, so I live on monitoring deals

Recommendations

As of 6/12/2024 you can find this shoe on good discounts with the pending release of version 2.  I strongly recommend this shoe for people who like a lightweight, no frills firmer foam running shoe.
*I found my next up pair for around 70 bucks and it rocked out the first 12 mile run in it
