Summary

Great first ultra race. Ice Age Trail 50 is well-marked, well-supported with great aid stations, and in a beautiful part of southern Wisconsin. It is hilly, but fairly tame for an ultra trail race. Great community!

Ice Age Trail 50 Review

I couldn't have asked for a better first Ice Age experience. They cap the race field in each distance, so the trails didn't feel too crowded. As an average-pace runner, it was nice to be surrounded by other people who ran at a 10-12 minute average pace. I did not feel left behind as I have at other races. People actually stayed at the finish line until the 12 hour finish time to cheer on all finishers. It was supportive and encouraging. Aid stations were great and the volunteers were knowledgeable and cheerful! Out-and-back legs felt a little strange for a trail race, but it was well-marked. I would definitely recommend Ice Age 50 for anyone getting into trail running - for any of the distances! Get online and register early because the distances do cap out and fill a waitlist.
