I have been using the Wahoo TICKR heart rate monitor with chest strap for two years now and before that I used the Garmin HRM-Dual. I have LOVED the TICKR as it has been more reliable and the fit is just so much better. So I was really excited to give the newer armband option a try.
I do get *some* chafing with the typical chest strap monitor, but not as much as women with larger cup size. I know that has been the main reason women have wanted to try the armband version. I can say, the chafing was DRASTICALLY reduced (if not entirely reduced). So for me, that was reason enough to appreciate this item.
I easily connected the monitor via Bluetooth to my Garmin Fenix 7S as well as my Garmin Edge 830. I decided to try the armband for a run first since that would likely be my main use for this device. The first few minutes of my run were VERY jumpy and my watch said my HR shot up to 170s bpm which is way over my normal range. But within 5-7 minutes, it evened out and seemed normal the rest of the run. Following subsequent runs the monitor was VERY accurate compared to my usual HR ranges.
I took the armband out for two bike rides and was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy and comfort as well. My only comment is that if you are a triathlete, the armband made my aero bar scoops feel a little slippery so just be aware of that.
Another plus is the monitor is RECHARGABLE! This is huge and definitely appreciated. Overall, I would say the Wahoo TICKR fit is getting added to my weekly gear!
The box came with the HR monitor itself, armband and replacement armband, and charging cable. Very sleek and I thoroughly appreciate a replacement!
Wahoo says that the armband "works best on the upper forearm, just below the elbow on either the inside or outside of the arm." I easily fit the strap snugly on my upper forearm with no issue and no sliding during activity.
I was provided the Wahoo TICKR Fit Armband in exchange for this review.
