As a committed Altra runner, I was excited to give this updated Torin model a try. When I first laced them up, my feet felt amazing - the cushion in this model instantly felt great! During my first run, my feet felt fine for the first three miles and then they started to have a tingling numbness around mile four (mainly in the toe box area). I figured I needed to break them in. Sadly, this issue didn't go away. I have ran in them a month and they are just an "okay" model.
My biggest issues:
However, there are some good things with this model. Over the past month, I have also used these shoes for walks with my dog, and they are great walking shoes! They have great stability (which is so helpful when a German Shepherd is pulling me!) and offer the perfect cushion for just walking. Also, they have improved the tongue - it is now soft and plush, whereas it was more like a piece of plastic on the previous model. Further, I have had issues with Altra laces coming untied easily, and that is not the case with this model! The laces have always stayed tied.
The good with this model:
Overall, these weren't a great fit for me. If I only needed them for walking and going on runs less than 3 miles, then they would be a great option! But for longer runs and speed workouts, I would pass on these. Kudos to Altra for making necessary improvements from the previous model!
Altra received plenty of negative feedback from the previous model simply because the tongue was uncomfortable. Thankfully, they listened to feedback and made a great update!
