Ingredients-- I love that Skratch prioritizes quality ingredients with real fruit juices to flavor their products. Skratch is using cluster dextrin instead of maltodextrin. The cluster dextrin is similar to super starch and breaks down at a slower rate than does maltodextrin. This is intended to minimize GI distress that often comes with taking in large quantities of carbohydrate. With 400mg of sodium, this mix is nicely balanced for temperate weather. However, it's not a hydration product, so on hot days it's likely that you'll need additional sodium (and fluid).
Texture & Flavor-- Despite having to use 7 scoops of powder for each serving, the flavor is far from overpowering. In fact, I've found it to be bland if I don't use the full 7 scoops. I highly suggest just using the full serving size. Skratch did a great job of formulating this mix without over sweetening, thus minimizing the potential flavor fatigue that comes with sipping/slurping/chewing sugary sports nutrition products all day. The texture is syrupy, but not so viscous as to be difficult to take in. However, if you spill a single drop, you'll know it because this stuff is STICKY. It is essential to vigorously shake the mixture to get rid of clumps, but considering the volume of powder you have to use, Skratch Super Carb dissolves surprisingly well in 500mL flasks.
Price--Skratch Super High Carb is $5.25 per serving compared to $4.75 Never Second's C90 High Carb Drink Mix and $3.49 for a sachet of Maurten 320. However, this may be due to greater cost of ingredients than other high carb products on the market.
