Summary

Salomon made a high cushion distance trail shoe with great grippy tread. This shoe is high stacked, yet stable and secure for miles of running on trails. A rocker to help speed you along and breathable enough except on the hottest days.

Salomon Thundercross Review

New as of just a few weeks ago. This shoe from Salomon really hit it out of the park. With their new high stack,  for them, trail shoe. Starting with the top. It has their sensifit system to give you great lockdown around the foot and heel. Their quick lace system makes everything snug and quick to use. They put a harder rand around the shoe for added protection which really helped me when my legs got tired on longer runs. The medium rocker helped me as well to keep me going on tired legs. For Salomon they stacked the foam high at a heel of 31mm and 27.2 mm at the front. It's tall enough for great cushion, but doesn't make you feel wobbly on the trail which has happened on taller shoes for me.
The grip is superb for anything that you throw at it. I've used it on scree and some rockier trails so far and it has been great. I'm excited for fall and mud with this guy. It will kill it.
With all the protection it did run a bit hot on some exposed sunny runs I've had, but a thinner sock has helped with that. Either way if you are looking for a max cushion and max tread trailrunner from short to marathons. This shoe is just comfy and a joy to run in.

Tread/Lugs

5mm lugs ala speedcross

The 5mm lugs on the Thundercross do a great job from gravel to mud. Even with no rock plate behind it this shoe handle roots well with their high stack.
Also not that bad on the little bit of pavement I ran on. With such aggressive tread I would have figured it would of been terrible.
