I have run this race multiple times and have done it a few times with my youngest son (as shown in the picture). It is a race that I always look forward to doing if I can. As a huge Michigan fan, this is an experience that I will talk about in a bit. The race begins with a big hill, so you need to watch out for early walkers. In fact, the race is crowded and even though they try to sort out faster runners to the front and walkers to the back and only let so many go at one time, it never fails people don't line up correctly. I never looked at a race like this as one to run a PR at, just a fun race to get some training miles in. The middle of the race has you run around campus which is mostly flat before you descend back to the athletic facilities and make your way to Michigan Stadium. With a great downhill through the now infamous Michigan tunnel, you take a quick left before you do a 180 in the end zone to finish at the 50-yard-line with the M Go Blue Support Banner that the football team comes out to and you get to live the dream of jumping and hitting the banner.
This has to be on every Michigan Fan bucket list. Although walking all the steps up to get out isn't fun after running hard, it is well worth it to finish on the 50-yard line. Man times in the past few years Coach Harbaugh is by the starting line to cheer us on and student-athletes are at the finish line to give you your medal and water. Although there are so many people there (it sells out every year) you can find some space to take some pictures on the field.
