The volunteers were knowledgeable and the course marshals were great in making sure no injuries happened with park goers crossing the route from what I could see. The fluid stations were much needed at each mile with gels at one station, gatorade at a few, and water at all. There were sprinklers at a few of the stations to keep your body cool in the humid weather.
This was only my second NYRR organized race and it was great. I haven’t really trained a lot but I made sure I ate a lot of carbs the day prior and morning of to avoid getting cramps. I knew there would be hills so I focused on going slow on the uphill and kicking it into another gear on the downhills.
