This shoe is curious in Nikes lineup. They can’t really call it a race shoe or an everyday trainer or a speed shoe can they? I mean they’ve got those all covered right? Maybe they kinda don’t want everyone knowing the Fly 4 is actually all of those?
I see it as just that after putting quite a lot of miles, runs and workouts on a pair. They literally do it all really well in a very comfortable package that sports pieces of all of their high end offerings.
The fit is maybe better than most of Nikes shoes and uncharacteristic of Nike the toe box is roomy. I love the sock type upper and the heel wrap around inner pad is super, the carbon plate isn’t over noticeable but gives a real “pop” as everyone seems to call it when you pick up the pace. The foam is again a great all arounder, firm but soft and plenty forgiving with a great feeling energy return. The sole has a plenty wide and stable contact and seems to be way more durable that Nikes “race” offerings, it works great on pavement, in the turns, on the track and I notice no traction problems in the wet. I think they look fantastic and the color ways are solid.
This is gonna sound crazy but to me these are everything that the Alphas and invincibles etc… aren’t and also what they are if that makes any sense. Overall these are an 8 out of 10 across the board and at all paces/distances and for me at least are probably my favorite all around shoe right now that I’d turn to for really any runs.
I weekly do easy short and long runs, usually a speed workout or two, hills and hit the track some too. I’ve put these through all of it and can’t find anything other than the laces are a tad slippery (gotta double’m up) that I don’t love about them and they are half the price of Alphaflys, granted they aren’t as all out fast as those but they aren’t way behind them and have the advantage of durability.
