Summary

Community driven 5k/half marathon in quaint town of Seneca, SC. Challenging course with multiple hills, but great vibe and lots of support during the race. Local restaurant provides post race food and adult beverages. Great course overall.

Race for the green

Course: I participated in the half marathon so I cannot speak to much for the 5k. The half marathon has a downhill first miles that goes through a neighborhood and away from downtown. Around mile 4 you have made your way back and run on Main Street with with a few outskirt loops. You’ll find live music throughout the course and police at every intersection to ensure safety with traffic. The last mile allow for the runner to kick it and provide a negative split but it does make you work with small rolling hills. Overall great course.

Aid stations: water stations about every 2 miles. No Gatorade or sports drinks on the course only water so be sure to carry your gels with you.

Post race prizes: everyone gets a finisher medal which is large and impressive as well as themed for the st Pattie’s day event. There are cash prizes for top overall finishers and age group winners for top 3 in respective group. This year the prizes were yeti style wine tumblers (see picture for details).

Pre race swag: this is where the race lacks. No t shirt but a cheap quality dri fit tank top provided. Pull over was advertised but never received. Instead you are given a hooded towel to go over your car seat. The visor that they give you is worth about one run then breaks.

Post race food: Gatorade, water, chocolate milk at finish line. Local cafe provides donuts and breakfast tacos that are really good as well as orange juice and 3 types of beer. Hard to beat the food here.

Experience

This was my first half marathon but not my first community race. Overall I really enjoyed the experience. The course was awesome and I always felt safe with police at every intersection managing the roads. There was a great vibe and lots of participants. The age group prizes were good although the pre race swag lacked. Food was awesome. Overall it’s a great experience and a fair course to test your skills. I would recommend for those looking for a saint Pattie’s day race or first half marathon if you have done your training.
