Courtney runs: This is what happens when you don't quit

Before Courtney was a runner, she rode horses competitively and played soccer.

  • Her mom actually made her join the track team in middle school where Courtney tried to quit two years in a row!
  • Eventually, the love of running took over and it became Courtney’s passion.
  • Now, she coaches cross country at Fairfield University, takes on private coaching clients, and runs for a competitive racing team!

“I love challenging myself," says Courtney.
.
"I find it exciting to push my limits to work towards achieving goals that once seemed out of reach. I also love the welcoming and supportive nature of the running community.".
.
🏃‍♀️The stats...
.
As a result of committing to her own running journey, Courtney has run a:

  • 17:44 5K
  • 1:19 half marathon
  • 3:02 marathon

On top of her own reasons for running, Courtney loves to share her enthusiasm and passion for the sport by inspiring her athletes to develop:

  • A love for the sport, and a...
  • Commitment to personal improvement in both running and life in general

3 tips for runners from Coach Courtney

As a coach that works with student, competitive, and recreational athletes alike, we asked her for some common mistakes that she sees runners make, and for her best nugget of running wisdom.
.
1️⃣"The most common mistake runners make is believing that they have to run hard every day and never take proper easy days. Easy runs are one of the most important parts of training for distance running."
.
2️⃣"Another common mistake I see is athletes being too hard on themselves. There is something to celebrate about every run/race, even if it didn’t go the way we planned."
.
3️⃣My biggest piece of advice: “Running should add to your life, not take away from it. We do this because it’s supposed to be fun, so enjoy the process, have fun, and don’t take it too seriously all of the time!”
