Kailas FUGA EX 330 Review

The Kailas Fuga 330 enters the long-distance trail market as a highly versatile and refined contender, successfully shaving roughly 25g off its predecessor to hit a competitive 285g weight. It manages to beautifully strike a rare combination: offering the soft, responsive cushioning needed for ultra-distances while remaining agile enough for daily training across any pace. It provides an energetic underfoot experience that adapts effortlessly to the trail.

The shoe's performance is driven by innovative geometry and precise engineering. Its XDiMESH upper incorporates durable Kevlar fibers for breathability without letting in debris, while the unique two-zone AWS 3.0 cord lacing system locks down the forefoot to prevent toe-bang on steep descents. Underneath, a high-rebound supercritical foam midsole is shaped into a distinct platform that narrows to an ultra-slim 60mm at the midfoot for quick transitions, before broadening to a stable 115mm at the forefoot for a powerful toe-off.

Rounding out the package is a lightweight Vibram® Megagrip Litebase outsole featuring a dual-depth lug architecture. With aggressive 6mm perimeter lugs for lateral stability and 4mm central lugs for braking, it provides uncompromised traction on wet rock, mud, and gravel without feeling bulky on smoother paths. Ultimately, the Kailas Fuga 330 is a feature-dense, protective, and lightweight powerhouse capable of tackling everything from casual weekday training blocks to the most demanding ultra-marathons on your calendar.

The Upper and lacing system

Mid creek crossing

Material Construction: The XDiMESH upper features an incredibly open weave that looks and acts like a non-stretch, thin Matryx mesh, introducing aramid (Kevlar) fibers into the mix for enhanced durability. While highly breathable, debris infiltration isn’t an issue; a full tongue gusset extends from the midfoot all the way through the toe box as an inner lining, paired with extensive protective overlays along the rand.

The AWS 3.0 Tightening System: Moving away from traditional laces, the cord-based AWS (Adjusto-Fit System) 3.0 allows you to quickly custom-adjust and lock the fit across two distinct zones. This isolates the forefoot to eliminate foot-sliding on technical descents, preventing toe-bang and black toenails. A neat, functional design detail is the integrated lace pocket on the tongue, allowing you to cleanly tuck the cord away.

 Kailas FUGA EX 330 Review
It's unique outsole shape

It features a supercritical EVA foam that provides a soft, highly cushioned, and energetic ride. This advanced nitrogen-infused material is designed to deliver excellent rebound and continuous shock absorption to reduce joint pressure. Despite its substantial, max-cushion stack height, the foam balances its plush feel with enough stability and responsiveness for highly technical ultra-distances The midsole relies on a supercritical foam that provides lasting, high-rebound cushioning, but another interesting point is the shoe's unique underfoot platform geometry: 115mm forefoot / 60mm midfoot / 90mm heel.

All-Terrain Capable: The outsole feels exceptionally sticky underfoot, providing uncompromised control on slick wet rock, wet grass, gravel paths, technical mountain descents, and even snow. Crucially, the lug profile is refined enough that it doesn't feel bulky or intrusive when transitioning onto smoother terrain.
