A third brand in the shoes from the East Series, Qiaodan released a new daily trainer in their Wind series and it looked like a shoe to include in this series. Let's see how the miles went!

Review Goal

This shoe was newly released when I bought it and in the price range of the Anta Bellero 4 (reviewed here https://www.weeviews.com/reviews/4351/anta-bellero-4-plus ).  From the East series, this is bit above some of the shoes I have reviewed or are coming in for review, but it is still quite a bit less expensive from the US market perspective, especially for a newly released shoe.

I looked at this shoe as a daily trainer with a nylon plate, making it a little more substantial of an investment for comparison.  More along the lines of the Saucony Speed type of shoe.  So that is the shoe view I am taking in my notes, rankings and review.

Deets and Usage cases

So, my first lesson in running shoes from the East is that they mostly don't provide the specification details that we are used to in the West. So, some of this is my best guess on compiled information from reviews and ChatGPT.

Weight: My size 12's came in weighing: Left 9.9 Ounces, Right 9.6 Ounces
Extrapolated sample size 9: Roughly 8.4 ounces
Heel Stack: Stats say this is a 34 mm Heel stack, but that is likely not including the Outsole and insole, which would put this up to 38-40mm
Drop: 10 MM, but feels more like a 6-8mm drop
Upper:  TPEE/TPU woven mesh for breathability and a secure, supportive lockdown.
Outsole:  Durable Q-ASU CPU rubber, designed for high wear resistance and strong grip.

Midsole: Full beaded PEBA foam (similar to premium foam) with a plastic plate for structure, offering high energy return.
Plate: Yes, plastic.

MSRP: I have seen this shoe between 100ish dollars to 115ish dollars on AliExpress.  I got the shoes for 111.00 USD after taxes and with free shipping.  So they are in the 110 "range" or below.

Use cases:

I put in 51 miles overall of running miles and around another 2-3 miles of walking in the shoes.  I did up tempo, steady pace, varying speeds, and a long run of 15 miles.  I ran on concrete, tarmac, track, dirt in dry conditions, the treadmill and on concrete in wet conditions.  I walked on office floors and parking lots.  Love CPU type of outsoles for running, but they can be a bit loud on office floors.

Upper

Laces: The laces are a different design than I have seen before.  They are a thinner material and straight until they get to the area you tie them, then they have a ribbed design.  I like the design intent as the laces stayed tied very well, but the thinness of the laces made it a little difficult to do a strong "pull" to get a good lock down.
Tongue: The tongue is lightly padded with a full gusset.  The tongue worked, but in combination with the laces, it was a bit of an awkward set up.  The tongue gets "puffy" at the top, so the laces always cinch up at the base of it.
Upper material: The upper colorways are quite nice and unique.  I picked this one because blue is my wife's favorite color and pink is my mom's favorite color, so that works.  The material is breathable (you can see socks right through the upper), but if you have a low volume foot the upper may bunch at the base of the throat.  Since the material is a TPU based upper it is a little less flexible than some other materials.
Heel: The heel has minimal structure and the collar is minimally but nicely padded.  I did have to retie a few times in order to get good lock down, but I think that is more about the laces/tongue structure.  I didn't want to switch the laces for testing, but that may happen with more miles now that the review is in.
Toe Room: I had no hot spots from the toe room and felt like I had good wiggle room without any slippage.
Fit: The shoe fit perfectly true to size in my size 12's.  The sizing is on point, just had a little struggle with the laces/tongue/throat set up, but those were no issue on the run.

*Note on sizing for Eastern brands.  Make sure you look at reviews, especially reviews that may be the same size as you to see how they work.  Anta's have been true to size with American sizing, but it may be a good idea to measure your foot in metric and find some comparison charts when purchasing on line.

Outsole

Through 51 miles like 95% of the outsole is showing almost no wear.  The 5% though is showing pretty good wear in my high wear area.  The interesting thing about my mechanics and doing these reviews is I have identified 2 things.  The first is I tend to be a heel striker during tired miles and I hit the outer rear areas.  The second is that even when my legs aren't tired, I have a tendency to "rub" that same area on my through step.  I have heard it on some clips I use for capturing photos and videos for reels.

So my thinking on the outsole is it may be great for normal wear and tear, even above average.  But if you tend to have abrasive striking like me, the material may not hold up quite as good in the areas that you have that rub.   In all honesty, the other areas of the outsole don't show hardly any wear at all and the previously mentioned theory is the only thing I can come up with that matches the wear evidence.

So if you don't have any rub areas, I would expect average to above average wear on this outsole and the outsole provides a very nice organic feeling underfoot in addition to great traction in dry and wet conditions.  If you have a rub mechanic like me, the wear areas may wear a little quicker than average.  But at the price, this shoe may still be worth it as it is still a positive value proposition as compared to other shoes within the US market.

Midsole - Quite nice

Often times when you have foam and a plate, you have a sandwich design.  The bottom layer is glued to the nylon plate is glued to to the top layer.  However in the foam method for this shoe, the nylon plate is imbedded in the foam during the manufacturing process and requires no sandwich design and no glue, which improves flexibility with the plate does not require glue so there is reduced weight in the design.

The underfoot feel of this shoe is really nice.  The stats that I can find say it is a 10mm drop, but it feels more like a 7-8mm drop underfoot.  I don't feel that drastic slap I tend to get on 10mm drop shoes, it is more of a guided ride with a nicely bouncy foam.

The plate does not intrude into the mechanics of the shoe and feels more in symmetry with the ride.  Even though I struggled a bit with the upper and upper design, every time I got into the run itself I forgot all about the upper because the ride was so nice.  You can easily change paces, do some tempo work and steady state work in this shoe.  It has no problems doing long distance miles and the colorway got some nice compliments at run club.  =)

Pricing / Market

Within the Eastern market on Aliexpress this shoe is maybe a bit higher for what I would call a plate assisted daily trainer, but I am keeping in mind that this was a brand new release when I purchased it.  It has come down in price some and it seems that is fairly common from my limited experience.

Within the Western Market, this is a bang on value proposition to other shoes on the market as this would probably be in the 160 to 175 USD range for a new release.

Sneak peak: I got in the "pro" version of this shoe and will start getting miles soon.  I spent less on the Pro version than the daily trainer version because a full site sale happened.   I am looking forward to seeing how these 2 compare, keep watch on my Insta for those.

Final thoughts

It is yet another shoe from the East series that I would have no real issues recommending.  I would only caution the upper issues, especially if you have a low volume foot and to rub issue on the outsole.  With that said, I would have to wait for a shoe to be an older version or on a resale program to get anything of the performance of this shoe at the price I paid.

5 Reviews in and I am quite impressed overall with the shoes from the East and I haven't even got to some I am most looking forward to.

Enjoy the mileage!

This is not brand sponsored, but it is part of a series of reviews that WeeViews has sponsored along with some chip in purchased by me because I am now addicted to AliExpress
