Icebug Arcus BUGrip GTX is a fantastic option for winter running. They do feel heavier and less responsive than a typical road shoe, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing when running in snow or on ice. The added stability and cushioning actually inspire confidence in slick conditions.
With gaiters, snow stayed completely out of the shoes, and my feet remained warm and dry. The waterproofing performed well in frozen, slushy conditions.
The carbide studs provide outstanding grip on ice, allowing one to run confidently without worrying about slipping. That said, the studs are extremely loud and uncomfortable on asphalt or bare pavement, so these are best reserved for snow, ice, and softer (non-technical) trails.
The materials feel high quality and durable, and I appreciate Icebug’s focus on sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint. Comfort-wise, true to size with a nicely cushioned midsole that makes winter miles much more enjoyable.
This isn’t a year-round shoe, but if you live somewhere that experiences real winter conditions, it’s absolutely a must-have for safe, confident running on ice.
