Summary

A max daily trainer/recovery shoe from Altra with a 4mm drop. A fat tongue and lots of padding for comfy miles. Runs a little hot, but has a smooth heel to toe transition and soft midsole. Low on the energy return, but classic Altra roomy toebox.

Altra FWD Via 2 Review

I've been testing these shoes that come Oct in early October for about a month now. With around 60 plus miles this will become one of my daily and recovery shoe options with its max stack and comfort midsole. The padded ring and heel really cradle the foot for a comfy ride. I don't run in zero drop shoes so Altea making a 4 mm drop has given me a chance to enjoy their wide toe box. The wide toe box doesn't mean wide shoe. The rest of my foot has the support I needed for daily miles with no heel slippage or hot spots/blisters.
I would say they are a tad heavy for what I like, but as a recovery shoe or for easy day miles this will work great with their new foam and maxed out midsole.
The grip has been fine on dry and leafy road so far with very little signs of use so I expect the outsole to last as long as the midsole for a long use shoe overall.
I also wish for a little more breathability, but winter is coming and it will be nice to keep my feet warm.
This shoe is for someone looking for a solid priced max cushion daily trainer that wants to experiment with a lower drop show as well as Altras wide toe box.

This is an incentivized review

I was given these shoes by Altra to test and review before release. The shoe ships October 2.
