Summary

Timberland's TB00041 sunglasses are a great choice for people who don't like heavy, or large-lens shades bouncing on their face while running. They're polarized, anti-glare, and feel like you don't have anything on your head.

Timberland TB00041 sunglasses Review

I'm super picky about my sunglasses. First, I have long hair, and I hate glasses that rip it out every time I take them off. I cannot stand when I smile (and I do it a lot) and the frame hit my cheeks. I also can't stand glare. Sure, that's not unusual, but last year, the day before the Camarillo Marathon, glare from my old glasses caused me to trip over a bump in the road and I ran the race while sliced to ribbons. I was sent the Timberland TB00041 sunglasses to try out, oddly enough, a couple weeks before I revisited the Camarillo Marathon this year.

If you're like me, and smaller lenses are what you're looking for, the TB00041 may be right up your alley. I love the way they fit. Yes, they're listed as men's glasses, but I hardly care. They're large enough that they protect my eyes from the sunlight (and sun through clouds, which always gives me a migraine), but not so big that I can't talk or smile without them hitting my face. It's a sensory thing, and I know I'm not alone. They're also incredibly lightweight. So much so, in fact, that I sometimes forget they're on the top of my head if I move them up from my eyes to go inside for a bit.

I got the amber ones (called braun polarisierend or 09H), though they come in three colors. It's a really flattering tone that's not too pink, and not too yellow. They also have a mirror coating, so fellow runners can't see you roll your eyes at the person who cut you off during the race. (True story.) I've been using them for a bit during my training runs, and took them out for a real test yesterday at this year's Camarillo Marathon.

It was a hot one yesterday, and I didn't sleep at all the night before. If weight and shape, and how something touches my face is going to bother me, it's after not sleeping and getting up a 3:45 am for a race where there were no pre-race porta-potties, and the four bathroom stalls took 30 minutes to be unlocked. I had these on right when I got to the starting line because I was surly, and I didn't want anyone to see that. After hours on my face during a really hot race (I'm writing this in early August, and Camarillo is in southern California), I honestly forgot I had them on. They're like those shoes that are so comfy that you forget which ones you put on that morning because you don't have to think about them.

There was absolutely no bouncing at all, and I never once had to reach up to slip them back up my nose (which drives me nuts). The best part, however, is that, as a person with really long hair, they don't rip it out when you take them off. I can't tell you how many glasses I've abandoned for just that reason. I need to get them in the other two colors now. If you love large lenses, these may be too small for you, but if so, you may want to try another Timberland style, the Earthkeepers, which are just as light, with larger lenses, but have all the same features, plus a thicker frame. (I was sent those as well, but I tend to wear them when I'm not running.)
