Overall my experience at the Buffalo Marathon was a good one. I achieved my Boston Marathon age group qualifying time. The weather was perfect on race day. Mid-40s and partly cloudy. The course was relatively flat. I recall a couple hills and some fast downhills. The views of Lake Erie inside the Marina we ran through were cool. There were plenty of aid stations with water and Gatorade. GU gels were also available. From what I remember, the crowd support was sparse outside of downtown. The mile markers on the course could be easily seen. The only negative I have about the course was near the finish line. As we approached the end of the race on a roundabout, we had to make a sharp right turn to run around some orange cones before making a hard left turn before making a right turn to head the finish. Maybe that small section had to be added to get 26.2 miles. It would have been better to not have that section so as you went around the roundabout, you could accelerate and go right to the finish line. I would recommend this race to first time marathoners, anyone looking to BQ or just interested in trying a new race.
