I recently traveled to Spain for the Tenerife BlueTrail 24K, and while I do travel for races, I don't do it often enough that my tummy is used to it. That said, I do travel quite a lot for work, so I sadly know what can happen to your stomach when you're on a plane. It's easy to get bloated from the pressure changes, eating airport and airplane food, and then adding in unfamiliar cuisine in a new place and nerves for a race. All of a sudden, you're adjusting that running belt you brought to a larger size, and running can feel uncomfortable.
I was sent a jar of ActivatedYou: Daily Digestive Tonic, which is a powder supplement with pro and postbiotics which you mix into water and drink daily. I started using it shortly before the trip, and when I got there, I didn't have any stomach issues. That was even true on the plane, where my tummy always puffs up like a balloon. (Sorry for the TMI, but hey, we're runners. We have to talk about these things.)
The first thing I noticed was the taste, which I love. It's berry lemonade, and it's delicious. It's not overly tangy or sweet, and it has stevia for sweetening rather than sugar. It's 10 calories per serving, which you may or may not care about, but you don't have to factor this into your carb calculations if you do them. After a few days, I started to notice that I felt a little less sluggish than usual, and since I've been home, it's continued to work. To be honest, I'd recommend this for travel in general, and not just races.
It has a list of ingredients that can really help out your tummy. It has electrolytes to keep your hydration levels up, Vitamin C and coagulans to help the bacteria in your gut, and digestive aids like apple cider vinegar concentrate, kombucha extract, and cassava root prebiotic fiber (but not enough to cause issues while running, with 1 gram per serving).
The company has a wide range of products to help out, including a Morning Complete with pre and probiotics as well as green superfoods, but for that one, I'd be a bit more careful as there are 4 grams of fiber. It may be better on days you're not running, or if you haven't had fiber in other places. My only issue is that it doesn't come in a travel size, which means you have to take the entire thing. However, the packaging is a plus in one way that may alleviate a pet peeve. I cannot stand trying to use a huge scoop for any supplement or powder when I have a bottle with a small neck. It gets everywhere and drives me nuts. However, ActivatedYou has a small and narrow scoop that even works in little water bottles. I'm definitely getting this again after seeing how well it works.
I was sent this product to review.
