One of my favorite runs each year. All the local running groups come in, many social media running personalities come into town and support it. Plenty of places to go get a great drink afterwards, which led me to see the youtube great Kofuzi at a local brewery just a few blocks from the Start/Finish line.
They have a scheduling system where you sign up for a time span to do packet pick up. There was a long line when I showed up, but it processed very quickly.
They give a really nice tumbler at packet pick up. You can sign up for a free hat (and other things). For finishing you get a shirt, really nice glass mug and finisher's shirt
The volunteers, locals and brands all do a fantastic job of supporting this run. It really takes over the city in a very nice way, with neighborhoods out cheering you on, bands out playing, priests blessing you with water etc. They have some breakfast food ready for you at the end. They have plenty of bathrooms to use. The support for the later runners improved from last year
I may or may not have grabbed a half a beer from Eureka Heights at mile 22.5
The course veers through different parts of downtown, out to the outskirts of town, up through Memorial park and then back into downtown for the finish. The biggest challenge to the run is their is some elevation at around mile 22, so it hits when the legs can get tired, but I run this area a lot so I was ready for it.
This year we also had some head wind from miles 1-5 and again at mile 13 for a few miles.
Fantastic, the local support really helps this run be great. A lot of people out in very cold temperatures rooting on runners. A Fat Elvis due singing us on at mile 1, numerous small bands and singers along the root cheering us on and entertaining us. The city does the runners proud in their support.
Also, always good to run with friends.
My goals was to beat 4 hours, which would also set my PR by 3 minutes and 58 seconds. I crossed the line at 3 hours, 48 minutes and 13 seconds. I am stoked about setting this PR and with the cold and wind, it wasn't easy, but it was well worth it.
