These socks are the final version of the testers from earlier this year. I personally felt the testers ran a little large and so didn't fit quite right for me. I wear them for daily socks, but wouldn't run in them for fear of rubbing and blisters. The final product for me is really night and day. A touch smaller with compression so they fit my feet perfect. They are definitely on the medium to thick side, and with the merino wool I will use these in the cold months only. I ran 8 miles in about 45 degree temp and raining and they worked great. A couple big puddles soaked them, but my feet stayed warm and comfy. I really liked the compression underneath for my arch. Everything was secure, but not so tight that it felt restrictive.
Merino is my go-to year round for most of my outdoor gear. I go blend and thin in the summer for cooling without stink, and thicker and layers in the winter for warmth. These socks will be heavy in my rotation for days cooler than 45. I think they will really excel in the close to freezing range with their thickness. I love wool for the aspect of staying warm when still wet, and being a PNWer it is pretty much always raining. So these will be great
