Shiner Beer run Review

This is a review of the 2023 run, which we had absolutely beautiful weather for on November 18th of 2023.  Had a great time as I set a PR on my half marathon and my wife did the 5K for the first time.   Our local run group was well represented, which helps with the atmosphere, but Shiner does a great job on making all runners/walkers feel welcome.

Check in / packet pick up

The gear!!

The generally have a day before and day of check in/packet pick up available.  I tend to choose the day before just to have one less thing to think about.  There process is well supported, efficient and friendly.  The grounds are nice, if you like to have a carb load beer the day before, they have plenty of options.

Support

From start to finish, Shiner are great hosts for runners.  They have great stations at periodic times of the course with water / electrolyte options.  The Police are stationed at specific areas for traffic control and the locals are fully aware of the event and are very patient and look out for the runners

Course

The course starts at the brewery, winds up through town and then out to some farm roads.  This is mostly paved/black top surface.  As you get around midway through, the course goes through a gravel area (which is nice for us trail runners) and then back to pavement as it turns back towards town.  The back end of the course winds through a local park where you find the most significant amount of elevation (which isn't really elevation) and the winds back trough town and back to the brewery.

Atmosphere

Along the course you will have some neighborhood running where the locals come out and cheer you on.  Some other areas of the course you will have some cows cheering you on (or at least that is what I choose to believe).  The runners and support staff are great.  The after part has brat's, beers, music and fun for all on some beautiful grounds

Recommendation / final thoughts

Shiner is reasonably close to Houston, San Antonio and areas around those cities.  If you get a chance to run this race, it is very reasonably priced, well supported, a good run and a great time.
