Tough Mudder Philadelphia Review

This is a quick run down of my tough mudder 15k event that I did with my boyfriend and a couple of things that I’d recommend and would pack for next time!

Getting There

We were coming from NYC, so we stayed the night in a neighbouring town. It was about 30 mins away from the venue. We drove to the event the morning of and got there at about 9:30AM. Our start time was between 10-10:45am. We did not anticipate the shuttle system. We ended up waiting in line for 1.5 hours. The shuttle system consisted of school buses. Arrive early.

Event

Once we got to the event, check in was seamless and the lines weren’t too long, especially since we ended up being the last wave to leave. Bag check was easy. Definitely a little nerve wracking because there weren’t lockers or areas to keep things dry. I would recommend a dry bag or at least plastic bag in case it rains and don’t bring anything valuable.

Bathrooms for the event were fine, your standard porta potties. Bring some wet wipes, just in case.

The event itself was amazing but definitely not for the faint hearted or out of shape crowd. 15k took us a little under 4hours and 30 minutes. The course was very hilly and muddy, so we alternated between walking and jogging. Obstacles were well marked so you know you reached them. There were volunteers at about 35% of the obstacles, so we definitely relied on others for what to do.

There were several porta potties and water stations but they ended up running out of bananas and electrolytes at the first station.

Favourite events: Funky Monkey, Mudderhorn
Least favourite (not the biggest fan of muddy water): Arctic enema, mud mile, and cage crawl.

Also, if it rains the day before your event, it will be extremely muddy. There was a swamp crossing and we ended up getting stuck in waist deep mud and needed a human chain to get us out. Thank god for such a great community!

After Event

Once we finished event, we got our medal, shirts, and headband. They had hoses to rinse off and a changing tent. We finished late, so most of the vendors were gone, so I can’t comment on them. We did finish off with a delicious jerk chicken sandwich and nachos and an ice cold beer, which was very worth it!

Lastly, buy the professional photo package if it’s your first time. We didn’t bring our phones on the course, so it’s great for memories and to remember your accomplishment.
