Summary

Prickly Pear as hosted by SARR (San Antonio Road Runners run club), with awesome race director Kimberly Aubuchon in charge. Also happens to be the first trail run done by some unknown trail runner by the name of Courtney Dauwalter.

SARR Prickly Pear Review

2nd time running event, myself and 3 running compadre's took on the challenge.  For 2 of them, this was their first 50K and first trail run.  The 50K course is 3 loops of a little over 10 miles.

Packet pick-up / check in

They have a day before the run packet pick up as well as a day of at the event option.  The day before is at a local REI, which provides an opportunity to do a little shopping while picking up the bib.  Check in/pick up was very well organized, efficient and friendly happy faces to help you get your run stuff.  Watching the check in on the day of, was the same efficiency and friendly faces.

Support

The run is very well supported.  Multiple spots with fluid and foods.  People are hugely supportive and enthusiastic for the runners.  They do a great job

course

Blue Bonnets along pathways

Course is a mix of roots, dirt, larger rocks and gravely terrain.  It has some elevation, but not too much.  Us Houstonians aren't used to elevation, so it is a great way to incorporate some elevation without over doing it.  At this time of year we have a better chance of having some temperate climate and this year the blue bonnets were in full bloom, which was beautiful during the run

Atmosphere

The race director does a fantastic job of putting this race on and is very active in the local running community.

Recommendation

I 100% recommend giving this race a go if you are ever in the San Antonio area
