Red, White and Blue Half Marathon Review

I recently participated in the Red, White, and Blue Half Marathon organized by the Big Foot Running Company at Brazos River Park in Sugar Land, and I wanted to share my thoughts on the event.

The course was really beautiful, winding through the scenic Brazos River Park and along a lovely lake. The trails were tree-lined and offered open fields, making the run enjoyable and varied. The organization was great, with everything running smoothly from picking up the race packet to the race itself. It was easy to follow, and the event seemed well-coordinated. The volunteers were awesome, providing water and snacks at regular points and cheering us on with enthusiasm, which was really motivating.

The atmosphere was a lot of fun. There was live music and a warm-up session before the race that got everyone excited. After the race, there was more music, keeping the vibe lively, though there were no food trucks, beer garden, or activities. Participants received a cool race shirt and a unique medal with the red, white, and blue theme, which were great souvenirs. The race also had a strong patriotic vibe and honored military personnel and veterans, adding a meaningful touch to the day, especially with the nice area of the park featuring a monument for Gold Star families.

One of the best parts was that the event was not crowded. There was plenty of parking, and no issues getting into the park, which made the experience stress-free. The terrain was easy and flat, perfect for beginners and seasoned runners alike.

However, there were a few downsides. The bathroom was not opened until close to the start of the event, which was inconvenient. The weather was unpredictable, and since it rained the day before, part of the course was flooded, requiring a reroute that was a bit confusing. Additionally, they only had electrolytes at one station, which wasn’t enough for such a long race. This was particularly concerning given the humidity of Houston, making it somewhat dangerous for runners to stay hydrated and maintain their electrolyte levels.

Despite these downsides, the Red, White, and Blue Half Marathon at Brazos River Park was a fun and memorable experience. The good parts definitely outweighed the bad, and I would consider doing it again.
