Stump Jump 10 Miler

I absolutely loved this race. I've enjoyed trail running off and on for a few years now, but decided to really dive in for 2024. I decided to make Stump Jump my first mid distance trail race, and it did not disappoint. Knowing that parts of this course were a little technical, I went in with the understanding that speed was not the goal. I wanted to focus more on getting my legs and feet used to placement and vertical gain. That being said, this course is perfect for experienced trail runners who want to go fast, or first timers looking for a power hike!

Bad Beard Events put on a very well organized event. Packet pickup was very  smooth, with options for Friday night at a local running store, or Saturday morning before the race. Runners receive a race tee at pickup, and a finisher medal after the race.

The race started on time, the course was marked very well, and there were volunteers and aid stations along the way for runner support. For the 10 Miler, there were 2 aid stations - one at mile 4 and one around mile 8. Stations had water, Gatorade, and both sweet and savory snacks. NOTE: this is a cupless race. Bring your own reusable cups or hydration source.

Scenic Course

The course is beautiful, with several great photo opportunities.

Technical Challenges

Parts of the course were a bit technical, with sections where runners must navigate large rocks and water crossings. Chattanooga had a lot of rain in the days leading up to this race, so it was a bit more difficult than it would have been if the course had been mostly dry. Still a very great course regardless of your trail experience.

Runner Perks

An added bonus was all of the perks/swag we received. The shirt and medal were very high quality, and the post race meal felt like an after party. I also appreciated that NA options were offered.

Overall, very happy with this race and look forward to running for years to come.
