The Woolverino sun hoodie is one of my favorite items in my current spring running wardrobe. I’ve worn it as sun protection on a warm (65 degrees fahrenheit) trail run through our local canyon where the low elevations bake in sun. I’ve also donned it on chilly (32 degrees fahrenheit) road runs with wind and sleet. On both ends of the temperature spectrum, I’ve been surprisingly comfortable.
Before I jump into more detail, here are the important features:
I ordered an XS and I’m glad I did so instead of a small. The sun hoodie doesn’t necessarily run large, but it’s a slightly roomier fit than I expected. If you intend to wear more as a base layer and/or want a more athletic fit, I’d suggest sizing down. If you plan to wear it as a jacket, perhaps sticking to your typical jacket size is best. Even with the sizing being a bit roomy, I wouldn’t describe it as baggy since the 4% spandex creates a flattering silhouette.
The thumb holes are probably my favorite feature of this layer. When they aren't being used, you can hardly notice them. The fabric around the thumb holes are reinforced nicely; I foresee them being one of the highly durable features on this layer.
My primary critique of the sun hoodie is the fraying occurring at the flat-lock seams near the wrist on my left sleeve. Coincidentally, this seam is directly over my Garmin wrist-strap, so there may be additional friction to blame for this premature wear.
