Adidas Adizero Pro 3 Review

I was excited to try the adidas Adizero Pro 3. I've been on a quest to find a carbon-plated shoe that I actually like and, of course, don't get injured in. It's proven harder than anticipated. As you can see from photos, I've already worn my first pair of Adizero Pro 3 out and purchased another pair.

A couple of fun facts about adidas:

  • The brand, adidas, is actually not capitalized. A lot of people don't know this!
  • adidas shoes have won more major marathons than any other brand.

The adidas Adizero Pro 3 has been updated... a lot. Where to even start? The upper, midsole, and outsole are all different. It is also 0.07 ounces heavier, and the entire shape of the shoe has been updated to help your feet move more naturally.

Quick Facts: Adizero Adios Pro 3

  • Weight: 7.60 oz.
  • Heel to Toe Drop: 6 mm
  • Price: $250.00
  • Use: Workouts and racing

Upper

The upper of the adidas Adizero Pro 3 has been updated to a new material, and it's definitely an upgrade from the Pro 2. It has a more rough texture, but it's breathable while running, and you don't have to worry about your feet overheating.

The adidas Adizero Pro 3 doesn't have a heel counter, but I haven't found that to bother me at all. You want a running shoe upper to disappear off your feet and feel like you aren't wearing it at all. For the most part, that's how I feel with the adidas Adizero Pro 3. Usually, adidas running shoes are narrow, but I don't even find that with the adidas Adizero Pro 3. It feels more comfortable than almost any other carbon-plated shoe I've put on my feet (which is most).

In running shoes, I usually wear between a women's size 10-11 wide and have found the size 11 of the adidas Adizero Pro 3 to fit well. I have no issues.

Midsole:

adidas has updated the midsole geometry to make it feel more natural but also to make it much easier to increase your turnover. In the first two versions, the toe spring was more rounded, but in the third version, it's angled at 45 degrees. This makes it feel more like you are "tipping forward" and helps the transition from heel to toe.

In the third version, there are two layers of the “Lightstrike Pro Foam” that make up the midsole. The “Energyrods 2.0” are embedded in between the two layers. If you didn't know there were two layers, it's really hard to differentiate the two, and they blend together seamlessly.

The unique-to-adidas vertical rods can move vertically and on their own. This makes the ride feel more natural because the rods don't have to move as a unit.

One thing people don’t realize is the rods in the Adizero Adios Pro 3 can move vertically and on their own. This helps the ride feel more natural.

Where does the adidas Adizero Pro 3 fit in a running shoe rotation? It's your race day or fast shoe. I definitely feel faster in the adidas Adizero Pro 3, and there is no need to run more than workouts or races in them. I can definitely feel the updated geometry, and the shoe feels faster than ever and far less clunky. I appreciate that even with the carbon plate, it feels "natural".

Outsole:

Can you tell I've worn mine completely out? My Pro 3 have about 100 miles on them and they are just as bad as bald tires!

We know by now most carbon plate shoes don't last more than 100 miles, and this is no exception. adidas has added more rubber to the outsole of the Adizero Pro 3 to increase durability and traction. adidas uses Continental rubber (the same rubber as tires), so you know if it's good enough for your car, it's probably good enough for your running too.

It's made it fairly good for running in inclement weather. I've used them in a couple of pouring rain workouts or races with no issues. In all, the adidas Adizero Pro 3 has better-than-average traction and durability. I wouldn't take them to a trail race, but they've proved good for road workouts and races.

Conclusion:

The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 is a big improvement over the previous version. It's fast, responsive, and feels great on the feet. It's become my favorite shoe for racing because of how soft and cushioned it is, yet it still helps me run fast, and I don't toss that around easily about carbon racing shoes.

Who should buy it? If you're looking for a fast shoe for racing, this is a great choice. Who should not buy it? If you need a shoe for everyday training or easy runs, this might not be the best pick
