🏃♂️I ate these energy chews during the Mountain Lakes 100-mile ultra recently, and finished the race for the 7th time."
.
🍪I've eaten gummy bears, gummy worms, licorice, and fruit snacks, for running fuel. But I was looking for an alternative, and decided to try these energy chews.
.
😋Honestly, I think these taste better, they're softer, and have less get-stuck-in-your-teeth chewiness than gummy bears or fruit snacks.
.
⚡And they worked well as a carb and calorie source during the 100-mile race.
.
😀I'll definitely use these again to fuel long runs.
For shorter runs, a pack or two of these in your pocket will be fine.
.
But if you plan to run a marathon or ultra, or hike all day, and include these as a fuel source, you might want to repackage them.
.
👉I put them in snack-sized bags with 30 gummies each for the 100-mile race.
🏃♂️After running 15 100-mile races, Saturday morning marathons, and thousands of training miles, I know the best fueling strategy sometimes goes out the window.
.
⌚For this 100-miler, I started out with a plan to eat 5 to 10 chews per hour, along with other food, drink, and sodium.
.
And it worked pretty well for most of the race.
.
🤤Any time I felt like my mouth was getting dry, I'd let a few chews dissolve in my mouth, then drink more.
.
Here's the pitch from Skratch Labs that made me want to try these:
📆In the past, I've fueled with energy gels and sugary foods. Sometimes it's worked, but sometimes my stomach has revolted (Mountain Lakes 100: Use the Vomit Method to Go the Distance)
.
🤮A sick stomach is really what caused me to DNF last year at the same race. I was looking for every advantage to prevent that from happening again.
.
😀And it worked.
.
🏃♂️I'll definitely be using these energy chews for long runs again.
