Summary

When La Sportiva stopped making the Lycan trail running shoe, I studied their web site and thought the Jackal would be a good replacement. The 7mm drop was the same as the Lycan, but the stack height was a bit higher. More cushion - why not?

Cons

Collar (where the foot goes in) is too wide, too tall, too stiff, too hard
The collar begins to rub my heel bones after only seven miles and even with socks, the skin is rubbed raw
The "more cushion" that I thought might be a nice change turned out to NOT be my preference

I wanted these to be similar to the Lycan, but they were woefully different. The stiff, hard, high collar is a deal breaker, especially since it rubs my skin raw after a mere seven miles. Perhaps I could overlook and even get used to the plush cushion if the collar was more similar to that of the Kaptiva (see my review), but I can't get past how uncomfortable the back half of the shoe is. The toe box is ample enough - one win! And I like the stretchy and secure tongue that's attached to the collar. Maybe they work for some people! I hope they do, because La Sportiva just partnered with Janji to create a bright, colorful fun Jackal! La Sportiva, could you partner with Janji and bring the Lycan back in a wildly fun-loving design :) ?
