Summary

I really want to give them a 7 out of 10, or three and a half stars!. A lot of pluses and minuses to discuss and unpack here. It was a fun event, but it was total chaos. As I go into details I will compare it with similar city events!

B.A.A. 10K Review

BAA 10K is one of four races done by the Boston Athletic Association.  Although they are on different weekends on different parts of the year, the 10k is part of the distance medley. 5K this Saturday of Boston Marathon weekend, 10k in June and half marathon in November. Even though I'm giving them four stars, I'd still recommend signing up for the distant medley if you can.

The Good:

As always, professional photos on the course.
High quality adidas shirt that you can pick up before OR after the race.
And of course it is cool that you get a Boston athletic Association unicorn medal.

It is a well-supported course, water and Gatorade and fans cheering along the way.  Mostly flat, my Garmin  had it at 53 ft of elevation.  Some rolling hills, overall a great course.

The Bad

You need to show up at least 45 minutes prior to your start time even though bibs are sent out in the mail.  We waited 35 minutes in the porta potty lines.

There are no real corrals.  So comparing to New York City, Hartford Marathon foundation events, This is where we would give BAA three stars.  One giant lineup area with signs that say what start time should be but really there is no organization. People go wherever they feel like.  For the first 2 mi I was dodging people that were definitely not at the pace they claim to be.

Lastly, there was music at the end, and if you'd signed up for the distance medley or were a charity partner they were after parties, but for a regular runner, here's your banana. Your water and a snack. Have a nice day.
