A tough course the the Old Port section of Portland Maine, offers significant challenges and some scenic treasures. You start downtown, through the city and over to the harbor. Run around the harbor on a cinder track, past the waste treatment facility, then back down along the water. The surprise was the steep elevation at mile 9.
So, I was warned that there is a big hil.on the beginning, and another at mile 9....but not warned that it was a mile long giant hill! And then two more at the finish. Okay, it wasn't that bad, but just giving you a heads up. It was not a nice surprise.
The swag and after party was on point. Of course, water, bananas, granola bars, but also 2 drinks (9 options) pizza, Gifford's ice cream (that's a local high quality ice cream) plus lots of other vendors and samples
Parking can be somewhat of a challenge. You stay in a hotel. It's not a problem, but if you're coming from out of town, good luck. We had to look for a parking spot for 20 minutes. Locked into a spot three blocks away.
You run past a waste treatment plant. When running around the harbor it is a tidal marsh so it smells like a tidal marsh. There are several stinky parts of the course, pun intended.
The cinder trail around the bay was a surprise. Cinder trails are not an issue, It would have been nice to know I had a time.
I really got to learn this guy's name, Enjoy Your Life hype man is it every Loco race. He never wears any shoes, gets the racers pumped up.
