I've been looking for a weatherproof running jacket for a long time. I've tried several and kept running into the same problems. Most were too loud because of the material, too hot, didn't have pockets, or had liners that started peeling. In February, I was at my local running store for a group run and one of the employees suggested giving the Canopy a try - partially because of my love for Brooks and because of my ever-mounting jacket collection.
As soon as I put it on, I knew it was coming home with me. The first big wins were how lightweight and quiet it was. I don't mind a jacket with a little noise, but I don't want people hearing me coming from a mile away. If it makes any noise at all, you don't notice it.
I appreciated several of the functional features, too. The jacket has 3 pockets - two side pockets and one chest pocket - and they all have zippers. It has a zipper cover at the neck, and the hood has cinch adjustments to keep it in place. There's an elastic band at the wrist that is tight enough to keep the elements out and stay in place, but loose enough that you don't feel like it's cutting off circulation.
I also love that it packs into itself. Running in the Southeast US is tricky. The temps (and humidity) can have some pretty drastic swings, and they can happen very quickly. There is a mesh pack that runs down the inside back panel. Just pull the straps, stuff the jacket into the pack, and throw the straps over a shoulder... good to go.
But none of that really matters if it doesn't do its job of protecting me from rain and wind. I've worn the jacket in temps anywhere from 35 to 55 degrees, and in both moderate wind and rain. Not only does it keep me dry, but its incredibly breathable. Some jackets (looking at you, Houdini) left me feeling like I was in a sauna. I was thrilled with how well this performed!
To sum it all up, get the Canopy!
Unless your in a torrential downpour, any rain water is just going to bead up and roll off.
The straps just hang out in the mesh pack on the inside back panel. When you're ready to pack, pull the straps and the jacket starts to fold into itself. Push the jacket in and you're good to go. The straps are also adjustable.
Plenty of pockets for gels, car keys, airpod case, etc. The cinch cords help keep the hood exactly where you want it. Loosen or tighten as needed. The zipper cover is great, especially if you're not a fan of getting pinched. And the elastic bands on the sleeves are just about perfect.
