This was my first ever Beer Mile, and it was not only a ridiculous amount of fun, but also one of the most challenging races I've done to date. I quickly discovered that in order to be even slightly competitive, you have to be a fast Beer chugger, which I am most certainly not. Nonetheless, the atmosphere and support from everyone from seasoned Beer Milers to first timers like myself was incredible. I grew up in Shawnee, and the community is very close knit and welcoming. There were featured beers at each quarter mile from Shawnee Craft Brewery, from ales to porters and more! After the race, Shawnee Craft brewery offered side salad and personal pizzas, and I cannot say enough about how delicious both were, I will be back for the pizza alone 😋
This year, we got lucky, the weather was sunny and in the high 40's, but other racers told me the year prior was below freezing, and they had freezing rain, so my only "con" is not so much the race or its organizers, but that the weather in Northeast PA can be very ornery this time of year, which could make for a less than ideal experience.
This was my first time, however, I will be back for the 2023 event!
