Summary

The easiest way to get caffeine if you're on a long run or hike. The coffee is in a paste form and you mix it with water. No need to refrigerate. You can use it with both cold and hot water, and it comes on two flavors.

NoNormal Outdoor Coffee Review

I was sent a few tubes of NoNormal Outdoor Coffee to try out for review, and I think I found a product I didn't know I needed. This is coffee paste in a tube that you combine with water to make your drink. While I usually have time to consume my coffee in the usual way before running, if I'm out on the road, or I need a pick-me-up on a long hike or race, I haven't really had a solution before. NoNormal Outdoor Coffee is coffee paste in a tube that you mix with either cold or hot water, and voila, you have coffee. It's already made a race day morning easier, as I took it with me on my way to the LA Marathon (where you have to park by 4 a.m. if you want to get a timely shuttle, and this year had the added hell of Daylight Saving). I just put some in my water bottle and shook it up for my coffee drink.

While I haven't done an ultra yet, I do take really long hikes in addition to my near-constant marathon training, and I often need the extra caffeine. This is the easiest method I've seen so far, and it tastes pretty great! It comes in two flavors; Classic Black and Sweet Black, and the tubes it comes in are 100% recyclable. You get 20-30 cups per tube, and the tube itself doesn't need to be refrigerated, which helps a lot. It makes it all so simple, particularly the Sweet Black flavor. The only drawback I noticed is that it doesn't combine as fast when you use cold water. However, that's to be expected, and it does work with a little shaking. This will also be really helpful for camping if you don't want to bother with extra coffee-making equipment. You can also, according to their website, put it directly on fruit or chocolate. I haven't tried that yet, but it's a good option if you need to use it during a race.

This is an incentivized review

I was sent samples of the coffee for review.

Abigail Lock What a fun concept! Any idea how many milligrams of caffeine per tube?

Jenna Busch-Henderson Hey Abby! The website lists 45 mg per serving and lists 20 servings per container, though they do say 20-30 cups, so it depends on what size cup.
