I've currently been using this watch for over two years now and had a Garmin before this until I fell trail running and smashed it. They are a sturdy watch with a long battery life. With the solar panel in the glass it extends the use by not just hours even days when in the Backcountry on multi night trips.
I like all the information I get with their "Connect" ecosystem. It does take a while to navigate, but once you know it it is a breeze. They did however just add a plus which is a pay version. So far nothing behind the pay version looks worth it to spend money on. The free version gives you sleep, energy, and readiness for your day and activities. With a built in virtual coach you can even plan your training around with it
My biggest issue is with changing it. The proprietary connection is finicky and I have had to replace several cords over the time I've had the watch. A simple switch to USB c would fix this and I wouldn't need another cord.
The watch is touch screen, and also has real buttons. I tend to switch between the two and it makes for a quick and pleasant experience finding everything I need. It also has some quick button options like double pressing the top left one to make it a flashlight. And covering the screen with your hand returns it back to the home screen/watchface
With a dual band gps and all three major satellite networks available I have had little issue with connecting and tracking accurately. A build in altimeter tracks my elevation well. I did buy the heart rate monitor because I typically run by that metric and watches are notorious for bad readings across all watches/brands. It does connect easily and I can use it without my watch if needed.
The batter life with the solar panel is really good. If I'm in full sun, I can watch the battery slowly fill up over time. I typically charge my watch twice a week with heavy gps use. The tracking does use more power, but with no GPS use I would say I could easily make it a week and a half without needing a charge.
Garmin are super durable. Super strong Gorilla glass and I run on a lot of overgrown trails in the PNW so it gets whacked a lot with no real signs of wear and more importantly no scratches on the glass/watchface.
While the initial investment could seem like a lot. The watch will easily last year's, and their are multiple other models for a lower price without some of the features and solar panel built in. I feel if you want to up your fitness regime it is a good investment.
