After being a part of the Neversecond gel tester group and enjoying their consistency, flavor, and added sodium, I went on a search for similar products. AMACX drink gels are the closest match to the Neversecond C30 Energy Gel that I've found so far...and they're much cheaper. Neversecond sells their C30 gels in packs of 12 for $42, meaning that each gel costs $3.50 compared to AMACX drink gels costing $2.67 per gel in a pack of 12.
Flavor: AMACX drink gels come in 5 different flavors: raspberry (my favorite), citrus, orange, strawberry, and cola caffeine (75 mg). Each flavor is strong, but tasty--the sweetness is balanced out by a mild saltiness. Due to the strong flavors, I could foresee these creating palate fatigue in some runners competing in ultra distance events. Unfortunately, AMACX doesn't have an unflavored or neutral option. If you're looking for a salted, neutral gel, check out Neversecond's newest addition to their product lineup--C30 Unflavored.
Consistency: Each AMACX gel is thin and watery--similar to Neversecond C30 gels and Science in Sport Isotonic gels. I appreciate that I don't feel the need to chug a ton of water after slurping these down like I would with a thicker gel like Gu.
Formulation: the AMACX drink gel ingredient list reads: Water, maltodextrin, fructose, caffeine, sodium citrate, sodium chloride, acidity regulator (citric acid), thickener (xanthan gum), preservatives (potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate). Each 60 mL gel delivers 30g of carbohydrates in a 2:1 glucose to fructose ratio. Every flavor delivers 200mg of sodium and the caffeinated option contains 75mg of caffeine. It's worth pointing out that the main difference between the Neversecond C30 formulation and AMACX are the types of thickeners and preservatives. AMACX uses xanthan gum rather than pectin and sodium benzoate as well as potassium sorbate.
Something I really appreciate about the AMACX drink gel is its packaging. It's durable without being incredibly heavy or difficult to open. Similar to the PF 30 Gel by Precision Fuel and Hydration, the AMACX drink gel can be opened hands-free and without littering.
Runners who want a simple, no fuss fueling solution should check out AMACX. Considering its quality formulation and easy-to-open packaging, I think it's a fantastic option for race day when you don't want to fiddle with powders or chews. Although it's a bit pricey compared to carb-only gels, AMACX is a better bargain compared to Neversecond C30 gels. If you're looking for a higher carb option, AMACX also has the Turbo Gel--same formulation as the Drink Gel, but with 10 more grams of carbs.
