Fueling for long runs can be a challenge for me. Trying to find the right balance of carbs without all of the sugars and stomach upset.
I discovered Spring Energy gels last summer and have found them to be a more natural fuel source, easy to digest and fast acting.
Spring energy are a thinner consistency than traditional gels making them easier to consume while on the move.
The fruit flavors are delicious with apple and orange being my top picks ranging from 100 - 180 calories per packet.
On my last trail run, I decided to test out the oat pineapple meal. They recommend this as a pre race meal or for long run fueling.
These meals are approx 310 calories per packet and come with a twist cap allowing you to portion it out as needed through your long run which appeals to me as less to carry.
The flavor was spot on and the oat consistency was perfect.
The only issue that I ran into was that it got really thick in the cold weather and I struggled squeezing it out of the packet. I had to squish it in my hands for a bit before it warmed enough to come out.
