Summary

MCM is a yearly event in Arlington VA. Running through Washington DC, this challenging Marathon also offers a 50K if you think it might be too easy. In true Marine Corps fashion it is a little longer and a little harder than your average marathon!

Marine Corps Marathon Review

The Marine Corps Marathon, affectionately as the People's  Marathon, is a gut check of a marathon.   Not one of the Majors, but one to put on your bucket list.

Expo and after

At the Nuun booth in the expo!
Watermelon booth at the finish.

This is a big expo, But not in New York City or One of your Abbott majors big, But it was still a huge Expo.  About seven rows of vendors everything from goodr glass, All your top brand running socks.  Tens units thera guns etc.  untapped with setup with their maple syrup samples as they were the featured fuel of the race.

After the run, a bag snacks to include nuun tablets, water banana, veggie straws.  Applesauce, gluten free crackers fruit cup... Better than any of the major marathons.

But wait there's more!   Got milk was there with the chocolate milk.  Watermelon.com was there with free watermelon. Free ice plunge, If that's your thing (Not for me). There was a massage table a cupping demonstration.  One of the best finishes I've ever seen.

Marine style.

Good, bad or indifferent.   This marathon was very much in the Marine Corps style.  If you don't know any Marines they do things the hardest way possible.

Let me explain.  Everyone's GPS says the course is long.  I have a theory that there's an extra .1 mile for Chesty Puller, (Marine hero from World War II)  an extra .1 for the fallen Marine. And and extra .1 for the Corps.   Maybe all of our watches were off and all said it was 26.6, ... But absolutely the last point too was at a 45° incline uphill.  That finish was brutal.

The course does change year to year depending on where construction is in the city, But somewhere in the middle is a mile with pictures of the fallen.  That part can be a gut check, with dozens of photos, followed by silent Friends and family members holding flags for another half a mile.

Run the National Mall

Jefferson Memorial
I absolutely should have paid for the photo packet.

If there's any race you should pre-purchase a photo packet, This might be one of those races.  I use my marathon photo proofs in this review, But I'm definitely going back to spend a bunch of money to get these cool photos.
