So excited to finally release my data from my product testing back in May and UCAN's final results.
Even though I am a UCAN ambassador I'm trying to keep this as unbiased as possible. I do believe both products are five stars products, But I will not be purchasing chocolate I will only be purchasing mocha moving forward.
The major draw for me to UCAN, is the sugar-free product. No sugar crash etc, And one of the biggest complaints has been the weird texture. A benefit of the texture is the fruit flavors do not need water with them. The ease of a gel without water allows you to take it anytime in the race without carrying extra water.
The chocolate edge, is a little more filling, but for me requires a sip of water afterwards similar to other gels.
If your complaint with you can before has been texture, pick up a chocolate and give it a shot.
Also some interesting inside information, talking to one of their VPs at the Hartford Marathon expo: They have heard our complaints about the packaging size and are working on it.
The second thing, UCAN as listen to, was coming up with a caffeinated gel.
Two prototypes I tested in May, is the Mocha and the Vanilla latte. We'll just leave it as I'm glad they picked mocha to move forward with.
When testing this May, I did two tests with the caffeinated gels. I was instructed to run for 2 hours using the gel at the 1-hour mark. Purely looking at my data, I ran 1 hour at a 9 minute pace, on a completely flat course in near perfect temperature taking my time. I consumed gel number one at the 60 minute-ish mark, and proceeded back. Approximately 20 minutes into my return run, I was running with no additional effort approximately 820 pace. No jitters no shakes etc. UCANs claim is that their proprietary starch gives you more steady-state energy, and the caffeine seems to follow along with the rest of the gel vice a big spike.
Test 2 was a 1 hour run with the gel before. Although the data wasn't nearly as convincing, I can say no jitters no heart spikes no negative side effects.
Unofficial test number 3, at the Hartford Marathon, a gel 20 minutes prior to running, (my calculated caffeine kick in time) And then followed with gels at my normal rate. (If you want more details on my consumption rate, Even though I'm a 6-ft tall 180 lb male I follow the same rate as Emma Bates. 1 gel per 5k)
UCAN products were provided to me free of charge. I am not paid by the company, other than a minor commission on an affiliate link.
