Minus33 Midweight Woolverino Leggings Review

The Minus33 midweight Woolverino legging has been a welcome addition to my winter running wardrobe as well as a comfy lounge option for chilly days. I’ve only run in the midweight legging a handful of times since the temperature hasn’t dipped below 30 degrees very often since I ordered them. However, I’ve worn them often for daily activities. My review will primarily address their performance as an athletic legging, but I can also attest to their daily comfort and softness!

Features:

  • Small pocket in waistband
  • 85% Merino Wool, 13% Nylon, 2% Spandex

Fabric & Fit

I usually wear a size small in leggings, but opted for extra small in the Minus33 Woolverino Midweight legging.

When I usually purchase athletic leggings, I opt for a highly compressive, tight fit like the Under Armour Motion Legging. The Woolverino midweight legging does not provide compression although it is a form-fitting legging. Given the lower spandex composition of the midweight Woolverino legging, I ordered an extra small instead of a small. I’m happy with my size selection and would encourage anyone who is in between sizes to opt for a smaller size if you appreciate a tighter fit.

The waistband is a nice thickness and stays in place without being restrictive. I also appreciate the fact that these leggings are high waisted because it adds to their insulative property.

As a bonus, the midweight legging can be worn by itself as it has plenty of coverage. The fabric does not become too sheer when it is stretched. The gusset in the crotch also makes for a smooth appearance without bunching.

After multiple washes following the care instructions, I have yet to see any signs of wear! Minus33 suggests avoiding softeners and washing with a mild detergent and drying on low heat.

Running in the Midweight Legging

I’ve worn the midweight legging on two runs of note.

The first run was a chilly, but dry 90 minute run in overcast conditions and around 30 degrees. I appreciated the warmth they provided while simultaneously moisture-wicking of any sweat that might produce a chill.

The second was a 100 minute run in heavy snow and sub-freezing temps. The snow was pretty slushy and wet, so it was more akin to a rain. During this session, I noticed that moisture sat on the upper layer of the fabric at first, but as time went on, it began to soak through. Although I was soaked to the bone, I was warm–one of the best properties of wool! The only downside I experienced with the midweight legging was how heavy they became once soaked through. It also took quite a while for the fabric to dry post-run. I hung them up to dry overnight and they were still waterlogged the following day.

As far as storage capacity goes in the midweight legging, there is a small pocket in the waistband. It does not zip or close, so it wouldn’t be a safe place for keys or similar valuables. I could see stashing a small gel in there, but nothing larger than a Gu package.

As far as running comfort, the legging doesn’t restrict motion or show signs of chafing (thanks to flat lock seams)–even when wet!

This is an incentivized review
